As the summer of 2019 comes to a close, we thought we'd share some of what's been happening at NextChapter. From our team activities to exciting new changes going on within the company, we're happy to say we've had an amazing and productive summer!

So Many Sweets, Coffee, and Treats

Here at NextChapter we love sweets, treats, and the occasional afternoon coffee! Back in May, we were all eager to get out and enjoy the sunshine, so we worked away at Stauf's German Village and enjoyed some delicious coffee and treats. Sometimes those summer afternoons just needed a little pick-me-up. The team took a sunny stroll down High St. in the Short North one day for some coffee at Quinci Emporium. Of course coffee wouldn't be complete without a sweet treat to balance it out! C. Kreuger's is our favorite place to sit inside, enjoy the cool air, and munch on some delicious cookies.

A Trip to Kings Island

This summer, our team took a trip to King's Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati where we rode some coasters and dressed up in old west garb. We screamed on the Banshee, got splashed on White Water Canyon, and won some stuffed animal prizes shooting balloons.

Read All the Books

This summer also launched NextChapter's inaugural book club! We put it to a vote and our book choices went neck and neck until A Man Called Ove finally won out over the other choices. Next, our CEO Janine Sickmeyer recommended a fantastic read called Radical Candor. Together, we all learned about what it takes to be an effective boss and what it means to build your team with radical candor. In the spirit of summer reading, we were all pretty excited to share our top three summer book choices. Head over to the blog to find out what made the list.

Welcomed New Team Members

Summer brought some exciting new changes within our office. We welcomed two new team members, Trace Daniel and Sara Taylor! Trace is NextChapter's Business Development Specialist and continues to prove himself as a valuable member of the team by constantly improving and developing professionally. Read more about him on our team page. Sara joins the team as NextChapter's Customer Success Specialist after working in a law firm using NextChapter.

Gave Our City Some Love

As we spent another summer living and working in Columbus, we gained a new appreciation for all that the city offers. Our headquarters is in an up-and-coming city and we're happy to be part of the upward movement, so we wanted to share all the things we love about Columbus with anyone looking for opportunities. Read this post written by one of our very own young professionals: 20 Reasons Columbus is the Best City for Young Professionals.

Practiced Yoga

The lovely ladies at HQ have been working out and relieving stress at the same time all summer long! Some of our team members participate in hot yoga at CorePower together during lunch or after work. Since yoga is such a huge tradition here at NextChapter, we all participated in SUP Yoga where we took paddle boards to the middle of the Scioto River and relaxed in the sun with an energizing yoga routine on the water.

Won Awards

Every year since 2011, legal research software Fastcase awards a diverse group of people who are moving the legal industry forward, and this year our very own Founder & CEO Janine Sickmeyer was announced a Fastcase 50 Honoree! To learn more about this honor and the impact these winners have on the legal tech industry, visit our blog.

Were Beach Bums

As is tradition with the warm and sunny summer months, some of our team members found time to get out and go on vacation! From L.A. to North Carolina, we all took exciting and relaxing vacations. Check out some of the places our team members visited!

Recognized Women in Legal

One of NextChapter’s most exciting marketing campaigns ever launched this sunny season: our Women-Led Campaign! One of our beloved users Nancy Jacob recently relayed to us how much she appreciates that our tech company is led by women, so we're taking the entire month of August to highlight our women-founded, owned and operated NextChapter! We'll be showcasing other women in legal tech and highlighting our own team on our blog, social media, and through our CEO Janine Sickmeyer's podcast, She Starts Up.

Thanks for catching up with us and we hope your summer has been as wonderful as ours! ☀️
