Meet NextChapter's Chief Legal Advisor, Paul Kuzmickas! He has several years of experience as a bankruptcy attorney and is now working at The Cleveland Clinic as the Director of the Ombudsman Office. Paul is also an adjunct professor of law at Cuyahoga Community College.

Location

Paul lives in Cleveland, Ohio (the home of NACBA's 27th Annual Convention) with his wife and five sons.

When Paul isn't working, he's most likely spending time with his family doing various activities. His five sons challenge him to nerf, lightsaber, and laser tag battles regularly. In the evenings, you can find Paul and his wife enjoying a nice dinner together. Paul is also enthusiastic about sports (playing & coaching) and super hero and star wars movies.

Paul's Job Duties

  • Provide legal expertise on bankruptcy law and issues.
  • Test the software and provide advice and improvements as needed.
  • Advise the NextChapter team on any legal questions that our attorney users may have
  • Stay up to date on all of the newest bankruptcy law changes in order to ensure NextChapter is always prepared and ready

Paul loves working at a tech startup because of the people! He likes working with all different types of personalities from different backgrounds that are striving towards one common goal. Paul enjoys how NextChapter surprises fellow bankruptcy attorneys with new and exciting ways to practice law - which was once old, outdated, and inefficient. When it comes to using the app, Paul's favorite feature is NextChapter Notices, a court notices inbox. He loves having all of the pleadings that were filed with the case saved inside of NextChapter. It saves time from not having to switch from website to website and also saves the cost of having to download documents from the court's site. It is a win-win for Paul and all bankruptcy attorneys! In addition to NextChapter, Paul uses Slack, Clio, and CaseText to stay organized and complete daily tasks.

To stay productive, Paul unsubscribes and unfollows any email, twitter account, blog, etc. that he skips over daily or doesn't get valuable information from. He believes that inboxes can become buried by things you thought you were interested in, but in reality were not. Paul saves tons of time daily now that he doesn't have to sift through and delete many things he isn't interested in.

We are lucky to have Paul on the NextChapter team! Look out for next month's Meet the Team Monthly
